Islam, a major world religion promulgated by the Prophet Muhammad PBUH in Arabia in the 7th century CE. The Arabic term islām, literally means “surrender,” illuminates the fundamental religious idea of Islam—that the believer (called a Muslim, from the active particle of islām) accepts surrender to the will of Allah (in Arabic, Allāh: God). Allah is viewed as the sole God—creator, sustainer, and restorer of the world. The will of Allah, to which human beings must submit, is made known through the sacred scriptures, the Qurʾān (often spelled Koran in English), which Allah revealed to his messenger, Muhammad PBUH. In Islam, Muhammad PBUH is considered the last prophet, and his message simultaneously consummates and completes the “revelations” attributed to earlier prophets.

It was narrated from Hazrath ‘Aa’ishah that the Prophet PBUH said: “The one who recites the Qur’aan and learns it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven) and the one who exerts himself to learn the Qur’aan by heart and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward.”
